About this Product

NuGold art deco style barrette

For those who find it challenging to find a hair accessory that is both stylish and functional, especially one that can keep your hair neatly in place.

Introducing our decorative NuGold barrette, which combines the elegance of art deco style with practical design.

Crafted with a scalloped edge and an embossed art deco pattern, this barrette measures 4 inches wide by 1 1/4 inches tall. The french style clip, hand riveted using brass tubing, is 3 1/2 inches wide by 5/16 inches tall, providing a secure hold. A patina finish accentuates the pattern, making it stand out beautifully against the metal.

Perfect for anyone seeking to keep their hair tidy and away from the face, this barrette is not just an accessory—it’s a statement of sophistication and functionality.

NuGold, also known as Jeweler’s Brass, Red Brass, or Merlin’s Gold, is an alloy primarily composed of copper and zinc. It’s known for its beautiful color that closely resembles 14K yellow gold, making it a popular choice in jewelry making. NuGold provides a practical and cost-effective solution for those looking to create gold-like jewelry pieces without the high expense associated with real gold.

**All metals are prone to discoloration over time due to a chemical reaction called oxidation. When metals are exposed to oxygen, water, sweat, lotions, and even oils from your own skin it will oxidize.

Most of the items we make have a patina already applied to them, but if the piece is left out and exposed to oxygen, the patina will naturally darken. Copper will turn a deep, rich brown color at times resembling leather or even wood.

Do not expose your piece to water. Activities such as swimming, showering, cleaning, cooking and exercising can cause your piece to degrade over time and should be avoided.

Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals like household detergents.

You may clean your piece with a simple microfiber polishing cloth.

Meet the Maker

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my work. I am a visually impaired silversmith based in East Tennessee, not far from Chattanooga. Although I've only been working with metal for a few years, I've always been an artist in one capacity or another.  As a child I learned how to sketch from my grandfather who was an artist, sign painter and, who his family believes, was the inventor of the first bottle jack. He was a pretty amazing guy. I've also been a photographer which is a medium I really miss.

Not long ago the lens in the right eye detached and because I don't have a lens in my left eye, it has left me pretty dependent on other people, mostly my husband. I don’t know how life would be without his support.

Probably the worst thing you can do to a visual artist is to take away their ability to see, but because I am just that stubborn, I decided that I wasn't going to let this problem defeat me. I pulled out the old stereo microscope and purchased a micro welder. With perseverance and a few specialized tools to assist me, I am able to create what I visualize in my mind.

My pieces have evolved into wearable art inspired by nature. I love the organic shapes and textures of the natural world, and I strive to capture those elements in my work. I use a variety of techniques to achieve my desired effect, including hammering, soldering, and polishing. I am always experimenting with new designs and materials, and I am excited to see where my work will take me in the future.

Shipping Damage

Although shipping damage is rare, it can happen.  If you receive your package and there are signs of shipping damage, do not open your package. Please make sure you take as many photographs as possible to document what condition the package is in when you receive it.  The USPS will need these images as proof that the package was received damaged. If you find that your items are damaged when you open your package, please take photos of the damage on the items. The photographs are required for shipping insurance claims and/or product replacement.  You must contact us immediately if your products are damaged in any way.
